Bufftech Driveway & Pavers: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Bufftech-compatible paver panels and driveway pavers across Jacksonville, with typical installed replacement work running $250 to $1,200 depending on section size, and most driveway repairs landing between $700 and $1,800 when existing substrate needs dressing. You’ll usually know a section has failed before you see it: a paver shifts underfoot, a seam opens up after a hard rain, or the edge of the driveway starts migrating into the lawn. In Jacksonville’s clay-heavy soil, that migration is the earliest sign that a base layer has stopped doing its job.

We’re an independent Jacksonville contractor. We’re not affiliated with Bufftech, but we work with their panel system often enough to know exactly what fails and what it costs to make it right.

Which Bufftech Models This Applies To

An open living space after a whole-home remodel

Bufftech panels come in two broad categories: driveway-rated panels and pedestrian pavers. The driveway line uses a deeper panel profile, typically 2 to 3 inches, with a reinforced grid structure underneath that locks into compacted base. The pedestrian pavers are thinner, usually 1.5 inches or less, and they are not built for vehicle weight. That distinction matters because we regularly see homeowners in Mandarin and along the Southside who put pedestrian panels down on a driveway apron and wonder why they cracked inside a year.

Identifying your exact panel is straightforward: flip a loose paver and look for the mold number stamped on the underside, usually a four to six digit code. Measure the panel face too, because Bufftech has shifted panel dimensions between generations. An older 16-inch square panel does not simply drop into a newer 18-inch grid, even if the texture looks identical at a glance. For replacements we spec OEM Bufftech panels when the driveway is newer than ten years and the color is still in active production. For discontinued colors, we source matched aftermarket panels from manufacturers who work from the original Bufftech molds, which keeps the color blend consistent across the repaired section.

Signs Your Bufftech Driveway & Pavers Is Failing

  • Panels rocking or tipping underfoot. The soil beneath the panel has washed out or settled unevenly. In Jacksonville’s summer downpours, water finds its way under the edges and erodes the sand layer that keeps panels seated. If it rocks, the base has a void under it.
  • Seams opening between panels. This points to lateral movement, usually from a saturated base layer. Jacksonville’s clay expands when wet and contracts when dry, and that cycle slowly pushes panels apart. A quarter-inch seam in spring becomes a half-inch by August.
  • Edge panels sliding into the lawn. The edge restraint has failed. Bufftech systems depend on a solid perimeter edge to hold the field in compression. Once an edge lets go, the outer panels start walking outward, and the pattern begins to fail from the outside in.
  • Standing water on the driveway surface. A properly pitched Bufftech installation sheds water. When you see pooling, the base has settled below grade in that spot. Fixing it means pulling that section, re-dressing the base, and re-setting the panels, not just topping the surface with sand.
  • Hairline cracks appearing across multiple panels. This is the signature of pedestrian panels being used under vehicle load, or a base that was never compacted to spec. One cracked panel is a fluke. Three or four in a cluster tells us the installation was never right for its use.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled living room with built-in shelves around the fireplace

For Jacksonville homeowners, small paver panel replacements that don’t touch the base run $250 to $700. A full driveway section replacement, including removing the failed panels, re-dressing and compacting the base, and re-setting with fresh edge restraint, runs $1,200 to $3,500 depending on square footage and how deep we have to go to reach stable soil. You’ll get the written line-item price before work starts, so you know exactly what the materials cost, what the labor costs, and what the base preparation costs. No numbers move at the door.

Every repair we install is covered by our 365-Day Done Right Promise. If that section shifts, settles, or fails within a year, we come back and correct it at no charge.

DIY or Call Us?

There are two things an owner can safely check before calling us. First, walk the driveway after a rain and note where water stands. Second, press down on any panel that looks suspicious and feel for movement. That tells you where the problem lives. What an owner should not do is start pulling panels. Once you lift a section, you’ve broken the edge restraint, and the sand layer starts spilling out. By the time you realize the base is clay soup underneath, you’ve tripled the size of the repair.

Base failure in Jacksonville’s soil is the real repair, and that means digging, compacting, and re-grading, not swapping a panel. If you’re seeing seams open or edges walk, call us at (904) 337-5929 and we’ll tell you straight whether it’s a quick panel swap or a base rebuild.
