Oldcastle Bathroom Remodeling: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Oldcastle-compatible bathroom remodeling systems across Jacksonville, with most full bathroom remodels running between $9,000 and $28,000 depending on scope, materials, and what’s behind the existing walls. If your Oldcastle shower pan, surround, or tub system has cracked, delaminated, or started leaking into the subfloor, you’re not alone: Jacksonville’s humidity and shifting clay soil put real stress on acrylic and fiberglass units over time. Most owners discover the failure through water staining on the ceiling below, a soft spot in the bathroom floor, or grout and caulk lines that won’t stay sealed no matter how many times they’re redone.

Bradford Remodeling Co Jacksonville is an independent contractor, not affiliated with Oldcastle. What that means for you: we match your existing Oldcastle unit’s dimensions and drain configuration, then give you a written price before a single tool comes out.

Which Oldcastle Models This Applies To

Oldcastle’s bathroom product line spans several series over the years, and the compatibility gotcha is real. The older pre-2010 units, particularly the direct-to-stud acrylic surrounds with integrated soap ledges, used a 3-piece wall panel system that measured 60 inches wide with a 30-inch deep pan. The newer units shifted to a 60-by-32 footprint and moved the drain center from 12 inches off the back wall to 14. If you order a replacement pan assuming all 60-inch units share the same drain location, you’ll end up with a pan that doesn’t seat against the drain pipe. We’ve seen it happen in Arlington and Mandarin more times than we care to count.

Look for the manufacturer’s stamp on the backside of the access panel or the underside of the shower pan lip. Oldcastle typically embossed a date code and series number there. If the unit is original to a home built between 1995 and 2015 in Jacksonville, it’s almost certainly a Builder’s Choice or Aspen series unit, which uses a different drain collar than the aftermarket pans sold at supply houses in the area. We carry OEM-matching pans and surrounds for the Builder’s Choice, Aspen, and Silverline series, plus quality aftermarket equivalents that meet the same dimensional specs when OEM stock has dried up.

Signs Your Oldcastle Bathroom Remodeling Is Failing

  • Persistent caulk failure at the pan-to-wall joint. This is the first thing that goes. The flexible caulk Oldcastle specified has a service life of roughly 5 to 7 years in Florida’s humidity. Once it separates, water wicks behind the surround and starts degrading the gypsum or greenboard behind it. Recalking buys you time; it doesn’t fix the compromised substrate.
  • Spongy floor around the drain or at the threshold. Jacksonville’s crawlspace and slab homes both show this symptom. Water escaping from a micro-crack in the pan gets absorbed by the plywood subfloor. By the time the vinyl or tile feels soft, the plywood has been rotting for months.
  • Hairline cracks radiating from the drain collar. Oldcastle acrylic pans are molded, not cast, and the thinnest point is right around the drain opening. Years of foot traffic flex that area. Combine that with Jacksonville’s summer heat cycling, and eventually the acrylic stress-cracks. It starts as a spiderweb pattern and worsens with every shower.
  • Musty odor that won’t clear, even after cleaning. That smell is water trapped in the wall cavity or under the pan. Mold is already feeding on the damp framing. In Riverside and Avondale’s older homes, where bathrooms were often retrofitted into spaces without proper venting, we find this on nearly every failed unit.
  • Visible rust or mineral streaking below the shower valve or at the tub spout. The surround itself may still be watertight, but the valve rough-in behind it is failing. Oldcastle units weren’t plumbed any differently than other systems, but because the surrounds are direct-to-stud, a slow valve leak migrates down inside the wall and exits at the bottom seam. By the time you see the streak, the work is no longer a simple part swap; the wall has to come open.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

A remodeled hall bathroom with patterned floor tile and painted walls

A full Oldcastle bathroom remodeling replacement in Jacksonville runs $9,000 to $28,000. That’s the total installed range: demolition, disposal, substrate repair, new pan and surround (or full tile rebuild if you want to move away from acrylic), valve and trim replacement if needed, and finish work. The spread, in plain terms: a swap-out of a failing 5-foot surround with a direct replacement using builder-grade materials lands at the lower end. A complete gut with a custom tiled shower, relocated plumbing, new vanity, and upgraded fixtures pushes toward the top.

You get a written line-item price before we start. No numbers move at the door. That price includes the written 365-Day Done Right Promise: if any part of the remodel fails within a full year, we return and correct it at no charge. Bradford Remodeling Co Jacksonville has operated under The Garrison Standard since joining the Garrison Partners family in 2004, which is the framework that puts every price and every guarantee in writing before the first nail goes in.

Scope Installed Price Range (Jacksonville)
Direct replacement of Oldcastle surround (5-ft acrylic, pan + walls) $9,000 – $14,000
Full bathroom remodel with tiled shower, new vanity, fixtures $15,000 – $22,000
High-end remodel with custom cabinetry, premium tile, relocated plumbing $22,000 – $28,000

The range is driven by three things: whether the subfloor and framing need repair once we open the wall, whether you’re staying with acrylic or going to tile, and whether the plumbing rough-in needs to be moved or just reconnected. We also work with name-brand materials including KraftMaid, Cambria, Silestone, Kohler, and Moen, so your specs are traceable and the manufacturer warranties stack on top of ours.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely check a few things before calling. Confirm the unit’s stamped series number so you know what you’re working with. Check whether the problem is the caulk joint or a true pan crack. Measure your rough opening and drain-to-back-wall dimension. That information helps us price the job accurately over the phone.

What we don’t recommend is attempting to demo and reinstall an Oldcastle surround yourself, especially in a Jacksonville slab home. Direct-to-stud surrounds mean the walls come apart before the pan comes out. If the drain collar is fused to old plumber’s putty or the pipe is out of level, you’re now into plumbing and possibly structural work. Curtis Lane, our owner, learned the trade at Los Angeles Trade-Technical College and has seen enough homeowner remodels across the Southeast to know: scope it right the first time, and the job goes a lot smoother when nobody’s surprised. Call (904) 337-5929 and we’ll walk the job with you and put the number in writing.
