Ameristar Fence Installation: The Jacksonville Owner’s Guide
Ameristar fence installation in Jacksonville typically runs $3,500 – $9,000 for a full perimeter job, with most residential lots landing between $4,200 and $6,800 when you factor in gate hardware, concrete footers, and removal of the old line. We stock Ameristar-compatible posts, rails, brackets, and gate kits on the truck, and we install them to Ameristar’s spec sheet, not whatever’s convenient on a Friday afternoon. Most owners find us the same way: their fence took a hit from hurricane debris or a backed-up mower, one section leaning hard, a gate dragging, and now they’re trying to figure out whether the whole line needs replacing or just a few posts.
Here’s the thing about Ameristar fence: the steel is good. The weak points are almost always the connections, the footers, and the gate hardware. We’ll walk you through what actually fails first so you’re not spending money on steel you don’t need.
Which Ameristar Models This Applies To

Ameristar builds several lines: Montage, Echelon, Classic, and their commercial Impasse series. Each one uses different rail brackets, post profiles, and picket spacing. The gotcha that trips most Jacksonville homeowners is this: Montage and Echelon rails are not interchangeable. Montage uses a 2″ x 3-1/2″ rail with a press-in bracket; Echelon runs a 2″ x 2″ rail with a screw-set bracket. If you buy an Echelon bracket for a Montage rail, you’ll find out the hard way about three minutes after the gate opens for the first time.
How to identify what you have: look at the top rail end cap. Montage caps are rounded and slide over the rail. Echelon caps are flat and sit flush. If the cap’s missing, measure the rail width. 3-1/2 inches means Montage. 2 inches means Echelon. We also install a lot of Ameristar replacement gates on older lines where the original gate frame is fine but the hinge posts have rotted at the concrete line, a common Jacksonville issue given our humidity and afternoon storm cycles.
On OEM versus aftermarket: Ameristar’s OEM parts are good steel, but their lead time runs a week-plus if your line is discontinued. We carry a quality aftermarket bracket set that matches the rail profile exactly and holds to the same wind-load spec for coastal Florida. We’ll show you both prices in writing and let you decide, which is the way it should work.

Signs Your Ameristar Fence Installation Is Failing
- A gate that drags or won’t latch. This is almost never the gate itself. In Jacksonville, it’s usually the hinge post leaning because the concrete footer was poured too shallow or the post wasn’t set deep enough to begin with. Ameristar spec calls for posts set 30 – 36 inches deep with a 12-inch diameter concrete collar. If the footer’s 18 inches deep, the post works loose after a couple of wet seasons.
- Leaning sections after a storm. Ameristar fence is built for wind, but only if the rail brackets are torqued correctly and the posts are plumb. We see a lot of fences where the installer used sheet metal screws instead of the specified self-tapping bracket screws, and every storm pulls them a little further out of the post.
- Rust bleeding from the post bases. Ameristar’s powder coat is solid, but once the coating gets scratched, Jacksonville’s salt air and humidity get to work. Post bases sitting in standing water or buried in mulch show the worst rust, and that rust is what leads to post snapping at the weak point right at grade level.
- Rail brackets popping loose. If you can wiggle a rail by hand, the bracket screws have stripped or the bracket itself has cracked. Ameristar rails are heavy, and once a bracket fails, the rail shifts and starts prying on its neighbors. It becomes a cascade quickly.
- A fence section that’s suddenly 2 inches shorter than it was last month. That means the posts are settling or the footer has cracked. On clay-heavy soil in Jacksonville, which we have in spades from Mandarin down to St. Johns County, post settlement happens faster than most people expect, especially if the footer wasn’t bell-bottomed at the base.

AfterReplacement Cost & What’s Included

In Jacksonville, a full Ameristar fence installation runs $3,500 – $9,000. That range breaks down like this:
- Full perimeter, 150 – 200 linear feet, standard 6′ Montage or Echelon: $5,500 – $8,000 installed
- Smaller yard, under 100 linear feet: $3,500 – $4,800
- Partial repair (replacing 2 – 4 posts and re-hanging existing panels): $900 – $2,400
- Gate replacement including new posts and footer work: $1,200 – $3,000 depending on gate width and hardware grade
Every quote is written before we start, and the number doesn’t move unless you change the scope. That’s the written-price commitment, and it’s part of the way Bradford Remodeling operates under The Garrison Standard. What’s included: removal and haul-off of the old fence, post holes dug to Ameristar depth spec, concrete footers mixed on site, rails and pickets installed and torqued per the manufacturer’s sheet, gate hardware adjusted and tested, and the full site swept clean. The work carries our 365-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If the fence fails inside a year, we come back and fix it at no charge.
DIY or Call Us?
What you can safely do yourself: identify which Ameristar model you have (we covered that above), measure the failed section, and mark where the lean is. That helps us quote accurately over the phone. What you should not do yourself: pull a leaning post out of a concrete footer and try to reset it without checking whether the footer cracked, because a cracked footer means the post will fail again in six months and you’ll be paying twice.
There’s also the reality of digging: in Jacksonville, you’re going to hit clay, sometimes limestone, and you need a post hole at least 30 inches deep for a 6-foot fence that’ll stand up to our storm season. Setting a post shallow because the digging got hard is exactly how the original fence failed. If you’d rather skip the auger rental and the afternoon of cussing, call us at (904) 337-5929 and we’ll bring the right equipment and a crew that’s done this more times than we can count.
FAQs

A properly installed Ameristar fence lasts 25 – 35 years in Jacksonville’s climate, with the steel and powder coat holding up well. The failure point is almost never the steel, it’s the footers and gate hardware. Post settlement and footer cracks are what shorten a fence’s life here, not rust or wind load.
Yes, if the posts are sound and the issue is bracket failure or one compromised footer. We can replace individual posts, re-torque brackets, and re-hang existing panels for a fraction of a full replacement. If multiple posts are rusted or the footer work was bad across the line, replacement becomes the cheaper long-term call. Call (904) 337-5929 and we’ll tell you which one you’re looking at.
A full residential Ameristar fence installation in Jacksonville takes 2 – 4 working days, depending on the line length and how much old fence needs removing. Gate replacement and footer work runs a day. We show up with the full crew schedule and the written scope so you know exactly what’s happening each day.
We keep Ameristar-compatible rails, pickets, brackets, post caps, and gate hardware on our trucks for the most common lines in this area, mainly Montage and Echelon. If you need an obscure part or a discontinued profile, we can source it, but the lead time goes up. Call us with your measurements and we’ll tell you what we have on hand.
If your Ameristar fence is leaning, dragging, or if you’re just ready for a line that holds through the next hurricane season, call (904) 337-5929 for a free estimate.
